The galactic map we have now seems rather... round. Is it possible to make it more 'stretched'? so that each system usally leads only to 2 other systems, at most three?

is this the true extent of the galaxy? or does it expand later when you get missions that take you there... or mods to the game that add entire galaxies. and here is a crazy idea.... if our game is in 3d.... why not have a 3d mapping system? rotatable of course... but think about it... you already have the starship adjust to leave the system in the right direction... why couldn't it be on a different plane?

i just see the 2d maps as trying to make a 3d environment in a 2d world. if the map is 3d then the effect is magnified... and it would look cool too.

I've thought about that, but I think it would be difficult to navigate.

However, if people think differently or have suggestions of how to make it easy to work with, I'm happy to take it under consideration.

hmmm... i saw an astronomy program ages ago that had a kind of 3d, rotatable map of our sun & its neighboring stars that was pretty cool, and the concept might work for EH. I think it was called Voyager or something... I'll try to find it. Although that means I might have to redo my Ssyssylwyssna map... Sad

aha! found it! although it's a 50mb download only to see what i was talking about.... so only do this if you're really bored

http://www.carinasoft.com/voyager4/demo/Voyager402Demo.dmg

If you actually do this, go to "Solar Neighborhood" from the tools menu & use the scroll bars to rotate the map. I think IF we do a 3d map, something like that might work.

Well, I'll check out this Voyager thing and see how it looks... actually adding a 3rd coordinate to the systems would be quite simple, but having the user interact with a 3D environment can be difficult. Confused
