What did you do? Did you draw him and then hint at highlights with a paintbrush in GIMP (or Photoshop) or did you render a 3D model that had almost no light?

Yep, I took a publicity picture and drew the outline around him, then brushed in some highlights. I'm working on a 3D animated version too, which is proving much harder.

I wonder what kind of music Yoda rocks out to?

Yaaaay!! Oh, wait... I need to get OpenStep and a Obj-C compiler... hmm... <searching searching searching> Okay, to do this I'll need GNUstep. I already have gcc (comes standard on linux) which can do C, C++, and Obj-C. However, I need to get libjpeg and libpng for it. The problem is that I;ve tried getting those before and can never get them installed. Therefore I'll try to get gentoo working as soon as possible so that I can "emerge libjpeg" and "emerge libpng" to install it. Oooh! Better yet, I can "emerge GNUstep" and it will find all the dependencies. Okay, it still won't happen for me for a while.

Besides that, Yaaaaaay! More features with stuff in it!

I have Fedora on a box here at work... I'm trying to get all the GNUstep stuff set up here... if I succeed, I'll see what I can do about porting EH.

Thanks Paul,

I'm sorry you're having to do this. I'll still try to get Gentoo going so I can do what I just said. If I do, then I'll take over the Linux port because I know you said you wanted to wait and do that once you got 1.0 done. I don't want to pressure and/or (man, I hate those things) annoy you.

I guess I must invoke my power again (betcha didn't know I could do THAT, hunh?). I don't really have anything to say except that I'm going to be really tied down for the next little while (even Summer doesn't cure no-free-time-ness).

well, i suppose being tied down for a little while is ok, since i will be too. with my new BLENDER MANUAL!!!!!!! *maniacal laughter* so for i'm in page 87 out of 768, and i fully intend to go through at least 127 more pages today, which will put me at part 3 out of 10, or if you prefer, chapter 11 out of 29 Very Happy . but, one question for someone smart...

so, when i make an animation, and choose a format for the movie, and have it render all the frames, and press f3 to save it, it complains about how i need to choose a file type. as i mentioned before, this is after choosing a file type. this happened on two different macs, and one pc (<---bleargh). the file types i've tried so far are AVI raw (which the book suggests) and quicktime. exact same thing happens with both formats. ok, back to whatever we were talking about before... Confused

I truley have no clue. I think it's a bug because those steps are exactly how I did animations in the past. I recreated your problem every time. I think it's a bug in 2.37a... hmmm. Do some research online to see if maybe I'm forgetting a step or if others have had the same problem. I'll try it in 2.36 too. If all else fails, post a bug report on the blender site.

it was 2.32 on the pc, cuz it wasn't connected to the internet, so i used the version that came on the cd, but on both macs it was 2.37a. so speaking of pcs...the first thing the manual has you do is make a gingerbread man and animate it, not too complex, pretty simple actually...my computer took about 40 seconds to render each frame, our powerbook took about 25 seconds per frame, the pc laptop, which has a pentium m, is a dell, and is definitely not a top of the line laptop, and wasn't when it was bought about 1.5 years ago, took about 3 seconds to render each frame. i think it might be time to upgrade... Sad . our poor G4 processors are feeling really old right about now... Sad Sad Sad
