Keen! Unfortunately I'm leaving on holidays tonight for two weeks, so I'll give it a more extensive play test when I get back. First bug report: I couldn't see my new player name when I was typing it in! Other than that, nice work! Very Happy

yeah, so about 10.4 compatibility.....

Edit: it occurs to me...i'm going to be getting one of those new intel powerbooks when they come out (hopefully in january). what's going to be happening with intel compatibility and this game? are you going to compile it so that it can run under ppc and intel or just ppc and leave me to run it through rosetta? Confused

I'm glad you have 10.4, because I don't! Anyway, someone from macupdate sent me a crash dump, so I know where it's crashing, although not why yet (I just found out it was crashing 5 minutes ago Very Happy).

As for the intel stuff, man, that just make me sick... Oh well. Maybe the University will have upgraded to 10.4, and then I can cross compile. Currently, I have no way of making an intel version. But at least I haven't optimized for G4/G5, so it should at least run under rosetta.

As for 3D art, just make some spaceships Very Happy I think some of your stuff done earlier would be fairly appropriate for the Syssylwyssna.

Well, I believe I've found the 10.4 bug... I'll get a new version out in a couple days to make sure.

I'll also try to see what's up with the new name thing... are you running 10.2, Mike? I've recently switched to 10.3 as my primary development platform, so I haven't been testing extensively on 10.2.

excellent, i'm going to be around until early august, so i can keep making stuff until then. also, i ordered the blender manual and all that fun stuff last night, so when it arrives i'll go through it as quickly as i can and then i'll be able to get some higher quality stuff out. it's kinda annoying, i was doing so well with 3d modeling in class, but now that i've switched applications i can hardly do anything Sad . although, the program we were using in class was just a nurbs modeler, and i assume that event horizon doesnt have support for that. oh well...what can you do? so yeah, until that manual arrives i'll try to get a few ships out, and hopefully that materials cd will have some good stuff that i can use.........

ok, yeah, so that post wasnt structured very well...but i'm far too lazy to do anything about it, so i'll just go back to whatever i was doing before and pretend... Rolling Eyes

Edit: two more questions, what is the current number of polygons i should be shooting for with these ships? and is there any need for a really really big ship, or perhaps one for each race or something, cuz that could be an interesting project for me to take on Very Happy

Nurbs are waaaaay too much to compute. I think the framerate would be one frame an hour Very Happy. I don't have time now to A your Q's (EXTREMELY PRESSED). Will look later.

i thought as much, that's why i was really annoyed that the program we had at school was just a nurbs modeler, otherwise i would have made a lot of ships there cuz it was quite easy to use. oh well, i'm working on two more shops currently, one that could be either a speeder type ship or a cargo type ship depending on what size you want it, and i also started on a massive ship (i was thinking of making it like 100 times bigger than one of the current speeder type ships) so if we do decide to go the route of having one or two huge ships per race we could use it, and if we dont i could scale it down...a lot Wink

Try this for 10.4:

http://www.umich.edu/~pdorman/event_horizon/EventHorizon0.6.1.tar.gz

I think that should fix the bug I'm aware of, though of course there could be further bugs preventing it from running. Very Happy

As for ships, we'll definitely want some big stuff! Something to strike fear into the hearts of men...

erm...i hate to say this, but now it gets to the part where you enter your name, it gives the warning sound whenever you press a button, and freezes when you press enter. it doesn't actually crash so you have to do a force quit. i can email you the crash log in 30 seconds or so...

Bah, that's still the same area of code... just a different line. Well, I'll see what I can do. Confused

computers... Mad Wink

i was also thinking, a while ago there was discussion about online gameplay, if we do go that route, perhaps each of the people helping here should have a personalized ship to wreak havoc in Twisted Evil i would be happy to make those (at a later date of course since i probably dont have enough skill to do it now)

Well, I have now excised all that area of code. It's the auto-pause code causing problems, so now if you are in windowed mode and you switch applications it won't automatically pause. But maybe it will work!
