Life on a planet is by it's very nature endangered. Any amount of things can wipe higher life forms out - from ice ages, to volcanic eruptions, plague, asteroid/comet strike, solar flares - the list is endless.
And for a pre-space society, all the eggs are in one basket.
For intelligent life to thrive, it must leave it's planet of origin - and expand.
Given the danger that is prevalent in space travel, each intelligent race must be spurred to make that leap.
It can be accepted that each race will have it's own innate curiosity - otherwise it will not have become a space race in the first case.
So the area around each sentient race should be seeded with artefacts designed to announce to anyone who finds them that other Intelligent life is out there somewhere. And this should be the only thing that the artefact allows it's finder to know. Enigma's, taunting them to learning more. 'Who was here before us, and what were they doing?'
Which intelligent race could resist such a challenge?

this is excellent, it could also be used as a prologue...i would suggest putting the 2 together if possible to see how that turns out, if not then im sure there'll be plenty of space in the game for it _________________ This space left intentionally blank. |

Yes, put the two together. It would work out beautifully. Maybe the first prologue could be from the human point of view... after you chose sides. |

OH and it could turn out that the artifacts that were placed there were created by humans and other races in the future and placed back in time to make sure that exploration was started... It is one of those time paradoxes thing were it has already happened in the past and it has to be done in the future of it wouldn't of happened... then the humans in the past model their technology from the relics they find that they think are from races of old and that gets them to the level of technological advancement that humans have reached in the future...
mind numbing but i love this stuff. Very useable for plot. and the twists you could use with time... wow guys this gives this game endless possibilities... people will write story mods forever on stuff like this and keep this game going long after it is released.
So in the end. Humans were looking for the races of the past when really it was them in the future that did it... it could be a galaxy known thing in the future or this could be a government conspiracy or some other embedded faction... _________________ He's Mormon/ one of a kind/ Popin' out the scene with only one thing on his mind/ conversion/ and Jesus too/ watch out for his hat cause it's gonna poke you/...Mormon/ yet still the Pope/ seems the high cardnal needs to ban that dope. |
