I downloaded the latest version from Macupdate and un-tarred it. When I try to launch the program, it bounces in the Dock for a second, then exits.
I'm running Jaguar (10.2. on an iMac DV+ (G3 450mhz w/ 384mb).
Any ideas? _________________ Nitewing '98

Interesting, since I've also got 10.2.8 running
Could you send me the crash log from your home folder/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/EventHorizon.crash.log? That should be helpful in determining the cause.
Nice website, by the way. _________________ Differentiation is an integral part of calculus. |

Try the alternative compile here. I compiled it on 10.2, so hopefully it'll work.
Let me know either way. _________________ Differentiation is an integral part of calculus. |

This leads me to ask - if you compiled on 10.2 I assume it ran on that machine. Is there something different on that machine from a g3 iMac? I'm wondering if there is a significantly better graphics card in your machine or something? _________________ Nitewing '98

I ran the original one I compiled on a G3 iMac with 10.2.
Maybe I'm linking against a library that's non-standard, so it doesn't load. I guess I'll have to look into that some more. _________________ Differentiation is an integral part of calculus. |

OK, I found the problem. I was supposed to weak-link against OpenAL, but for some reason it strong-linked, so if you don't have it installed it will crash. You can download it here. I have problems with it on 10.2, though, so you may not actually get sound, but it should allow EH to run. And I'll try to figure out how to get it to weak-link again. _________________ Differentiation is an integral part of calculus. |

Yes, that worked for me!
I'm trying to learn to play now. One thing, though - on my450mhz system with 384mb of RAM I'm getting 3 fps. Ouch.
Is there anything I can do to help the program out? _________________ Nitewing '98

Hmm, interesting. Right off hand, I'm not sure what's going on. If you've got a lot of programs running in the background, that could certain affect it. On my 500 MHz machine I generally get over 20 FPS. It could also be some threading thing run amok again. _________________ Differentiation is an integral part of calculus. |

I quit everything else before launching EH, but the machine had been up a while and memory might have been pretty fragged. I'll try it from a fresh reboot and see if it makes a difference. I think I'd been in Classic earlier, too, and it was probably still in the background. _________________ Nitewing '98

OK, from a fresh boot, with 216mb free (after checking "top" in the terminal window), I get 3fps when the music is playing, 4fps when it stops. (according to the display in the upper left corner of the screen). I'm using the alt compile you gave me before, should I go back to the original now that I have Open AL running? _________________ Nitewing '98

Weird, you get 4fps? On my 450 G4 Cube, I get 30 fps, with iChat running. Must be that I have 10.3. |

There shouldn't theoretically be a difference, but you might as well try the original compile. _________________ Differentiation is an integral part of calculus. |

No difference that I could detect. I will be updating to Panther later in the week, and perhaps that will help. From a fresh boot, with no server services running, I have 42 processes and that seems a bit high. Hopefully Panther is more streamlined.
BTW: on the 500 mhz machine, is that Jaguar? _________________ Nitewing '98
