You guys are probably wondering when you'll see a new version Well, I am working on it. I've been making it full 3D in terms of flight, so now if you pitch straight up and then turn, instead of spinning on the global vertical axis like before, you now spin around your local axis. I still need to update a few features to work with the new functionality, but I think it works pretty well. Perhaps I can get this out sometime this weekend–that's not a promise, though!
Then I'll jump on the rendering features, like smooth shading and glowy stuff. And, of course, the improved, actually easy to use, preferences interface Oh, and I'll need to make Mogul's nav ball, since the current version is practically useless with full 3D flight! _________________ Differentiation is an integral part of calculus. |

Here it is: EH 0.5.14
The primary change is to the fully 3D action. I've also made a few other minor tweaks. _________________ Differentiation is an integral part of calculus. |

Groovy. Thoughts, although it's all stuff you probably know:
- 3d movement is great, nice and smooth! Rockin'.
- Need some roll controls! Alternatively, perhaps an auto-roll to align the ship with the solar system plane could work too. Aaaand either 'forward, stop' or 'thrust up, thrust down' is redundant, one of them. I like the one which slows down when you're not holding the key down.
- 3rd person camera needs to be fixed behind the ship, it's a tad useless at the moment. Induces serious dizziness.
- Umm.. all good! |

I'll add roll control.
As for the thrusting, one set of controls affects throttle setting, the other affects instantaneous thrust. For example, you might be at full throttle, and then want to slow down without stopping. Or alternatively, you might be cruising at a low throttle setting, and then want to speed up temporarily, by pressing the "forward" key.
I can change this, of course, but I think it makes sense this way... _________________ Differentiation is an integral part of calculus. |

Wow! A lot has happened since I've been busy (still am actually). w00t! I hear someone's working on my NavBall! I actually am good for something! I'll try to test this version out ASAP.

P.S. I hope you're happy >pout<.
P.P.S. I didn't have that problem, it parsed it just fine on my browser. >TongueStickingOut< _________________ "Never sneak up on a turtle while he's welding"

OK, fixed 3rd person view, and also made the navigation panel so it's always overhead relative to you, no matter how you are oriented.
I'm thinking that for full 3D, however, it may be better to have something that's in front of you be in the center, instead of towards the top, as it is fairly simple to rotate until something on the panel is centered, whereas you can't get the depth information to tell you when something is "north" of you if it's up or down relative to you.

Quick question on 0.5.15: in 3rd person, is the ship rotating around the camera?
Also, I've been seeing the sun do wiiiierd things... it seems to move from its position somehow, depending on how you're looking at it (the ship's angle?)
The radar you're describing was totally how it worked in Super Empire Strikes Back on the SNES! Ah, memories. |

In 3rd person, the camera is fixed in location with regard to the spaceship, so as the spaceship rotates, the camera does, too, so you always have the same view. I could change that to operate differently if people so desire.
As for the sun, you are quite correct. Currently the sun (and other background images) are 2D objects mapped to pixels, instead of to 3D coordinates. I think I will be able to change that, though.
Also, I don't know if you got my email, but could you send me a .obj of a cube with one side glowing, and also in a smoothing group with other non-glowing sides? _________________ Differentiation is an integral part of calculus. |

Aha, ok. Maybe the camera could lag a bit in its rotation, if that's possible, to make the spinning of the ship clearer.
Sorry about the email - if it went to a hotmail account it's either been a) eaten by vicious spam filters or b) lost when I reactivated the account after not using it for too long.
Is this the sort of thing you want? |

Actually, I meant something in the material, not the texture... the way you want your engines to glow. Because I don't know what to look for in the material definition without having an example. _________________ Differentiation is an integral part of calculus. |

Here is tonight's build: EH 0.5.16
I'm still working on the mouse control, it seems kind of sticky in this release
I've also updated the navigation panel so it shows the forward hemisphere... it still needs some work so objects don't pop out of the circle
The size of a system is now 100 units, which you must exceed to jump out; to go along with that, I've increased the sizes of the planets, and distanced them when there are multiple.
I've also included most of the missions and trade goods created by Ozone... thanks, dude!
Probably some other minor tweaks, too, that I've forgotten about _________________ Differentiation is an integral part of calculus. |
