Long ago I promised to get a site for hosting plug-ins together, and I finally found a decent solution: a wiki.

I'm sure you're wondering what a wiki is…

Wiki wrote:
A wiki (pronounced "wicky" or "weeky" or "viki") is a website (or other hypertext document collection) that allows any user to add content, but also allows that content to be edited by any other user while keeping track of the different versions.

The one I found will let us upload files, make pages, and pretty much anything else we'd want.

If you want to have your plug-in here, just create a wiki page for it. Think we need a HowTo on something? Well…create it, it's easy.

Edit the page you're on, and then add a WikiName:

Wiki wrote:
WikiName - often called a camel-case word - is a string composed by two or more capitalized words joined together without spaces, like ThisIsANewPage.

So, without further ado: EventHorizonWiki

Oh…two other notes…to edit pages, you'll need to register. Also, be careful of apps you download from here. Anyone can upload if they make an account…I don't think it should be an issue, but keep it in mind.

I see it's XML. I would suggest that you make some sort of RSS subscription whosey so that we can be notified of new pages, programs, users, etc. I don't know that much about RSS subscriptions, but I do know that you can have updateable header-bookmarks.

Game Mogul: Calm…be calm and the wiki will be happy. Wink

You can already get updates…the XML can be parsed by most RSS readers to give a list of updates/additions.

Paul: Wiki is a bit confusing until you figure it out.

To make a new page, do this:

Edit the page you're on, using the Edit Page link at the bottom-left of the page.

Add a link, using WikiWords (Words run together). If you wanted to add a plug-in HowTo page, you might type in PlugInHowTo.

Save the page you're editing.

Now click the link to your new page and it's automagically created.

I'm actually a lot calmer in person (some would say otherwise, but...). I just find this my way of letting out all my pent up energy; I'm in front of my computer for most of the day. That and being hyper-active don't really go together, but I make due.

Oh, and Firefox's RSS parser-thingy doesn't pick up the RSS subscription on your site, though. Is that because there aren't any pages yet?

Well, my unnamed RSS reader (NDA, y'know) parses it fine…so does NetNewsWire.

It's pretty bare-bones, but it reports stuff.

I don't know, maybe Firefox's RSS reader isn't completely finished. I'm still running 1.0, they just released 1.0.2.

It works for me in FireFox 1.0

Go to "Manage Bookmarks" and select "New Live Bookmark..." from the File menu. Then enter: http://eventhorizon.caphector.com/wikka/RecentChanges/recentchanges.xml for the address. I'm not sure if that's what you're talking about, but it's the only builtin RSS I know about.

I don't really like it, though, so I use NetNewsWire Lite

You might want to edit the colrs for adding a comment to a WikiPage because the background for it is pure white, which I don't think you intended because it doesn't go with the rest of the site.

-Mogul

P.S. Super-w00t!-kudos to Cap'n Hector for all his hard work. :super-dee-duper-thumbsup:
