awesome!!! almost
keyboard controls don't seem to work (any of them) i couldn't even change it to windowed mode. mouse controls work though. also, it doesn't seem to go above (or below) 230 fps just stays between 230 and 240 at all times. strange since it was getting upper 100's to upper 200's running non natively. let's see if we can get the fps above 300!!! anyway, the fans still kick in full blast after a few minutes and don't stop until you quit. kinda weird cuz you normally can't hear them.

Interesting... I wonder if Apple changed some API's again
It may be that the most intensive part is actually drawing the stuff, so the change in computation from PPC to Intel didn't do much. And I guess if Rosettta does precomputation instead of on the fly that could make things more equal, also. _________________ Differentiation is an integral part of calculus. |

also, unless you have the cpu rendering everything, it's the same gpu as i was using before, but it definitely doesn't go below 230 anymore. it used to go down to 150 _________________ This space left intentionally blank. |

I can't remember if this is already a known bub (which I'm sure it is), but the game crashes when you kill an enemy.
I absolutely love the new menuing; nice job on that.
Two things about flying (1) too slow, I know, relativistic speeds blah blah blah blah... maybe say we have an inertial dampener (we have to for hyperspace mind you ) for normal travel (or have the caps lock feature like EV does for speeding up gameplay). (2) The star particles should start of invisible and fade to white. Now they start off black and fade to white. This is unatural when facing a planet or ship since it's a black line on them. Just use the alpha chanel for color selection.
Anywho, lots of great changes since I last checked, keep up the work man, you're doing great!

That's probably the new auto-throttle I added... the computation threads now won't go any faster than the main thread. The just-before release they could race ahead and slow down the FPS display.
I'm figuring out how to throttle the main display now, too. _________________ Differentiation is an integral part of calculus. |

Mmm, yeah, that would be good.

I'd noticed that, but forgot to change it. I'll try to remember now...

Try running it in windowed mode, that ought to do it!
I just ran it on one of the university's dual 2.0 G5's. Got 210 FPS fullscreen, 360 FPS windowed. And that was only at about 50% CPU usage each. _________________ Differentiation is an integral part of calculus. |

Oh wait, I forgot... you can't run windowed until you can press the "F" key... AHAHAHAHAAA! Poor intel users...
Can you choose whether to run a universal application under Rosetta or native like you could choose to run a Carbon under Classic or OS X? _________________ Differentiation is an integral part of calculus. |

*cough* none of the keyboard controls work, i can rotate using the mouse and shoot (although it only makes the noise, it doesn't display the shot) and i can't change to windowed mode

yes, you can, actually, when i tell the new one to open using rosetta, (while i still can't move) the frame rates are higher, in the 200-300 range and even to 400 once during the 15 second test to see if it worked. and this is with when the computer is already running seven applications and is under about 60% load. perhaps if i'm not as lazy later on (and i'm done with the stuff that's running) i'll try it when it's not running anything else.

Can you use the keys in the non-universal version? _________________ Differentiation is an integral part of calculus. |

nope. also, i suddenly seem to have lost the ability to run it through rosetta. when i check the box to open it using rosetta and close the info window and reopen it it's unchecked again. i can open other things using rosetta though, so i'm not sure what's going on...

I'm baaaack... with the new hotness, an intel iMac. So time for some testing!
Unfortunately I'm not getting any love from either the universal or the PowerPC versions. I get to the menu fine, enter my new player name, and then get an insta-crash when hitting/clicking enter. Trying to use the PowerPC version under rosetta results in the same odd behaviour Spork describes.
I've uploaded a crash report here if it helps. |

Hmm, yes, that is interesting.
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get a UB to compile recently... I REALLY don't like the new XCode tools.
I'll see what I can do, though. _________________ Differentiation is an integral part of calculus. |
