At long last, here it is: Event Horizon 0.5.5 Very Happy.

Changes consist primarily of:

• Backdrop capability added to systems
• Added pitch control for vertical motion

There are still a few problems with pitch and roll motion, mostly related to weapons firing from the position they would if the player were neutrally oriented. I have no illusions regarding the perfection of the pitch control system here, so please let me know in what ways you would like to see it improved.

only two problems regarding motion:
(1) if you tilt up or down, then press forward, then release everything, it continues going up or down even though the ship is leveled off. if you continue pressing forward then the ship stops going up or down. i think it would be better to make it so that when you stop pressing everything it does what happens if you continue pressing forward.

(2) up and down seem much snappier than left and right. i think that up and down should be more like turning

other than those two things i haven't had any problems Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Nice. The first thing I did was swap the pitch and the thrust keys around, feels more natural for the pitch controls to be the up and down arrows.

I'm wondering whether mouse control to control where you're 'pointing' could be possible - it's a bit hard to shoot at ships on a higher/lower plane right now, you have to try and tap the pitch buttons to get at intermediate angles. Also it might be nice if the 3rd person camera tilted a little bit with the pitch so you can see where you're going a bit. Overall I think it's a good improvement to the controls Very Happy

I've got a bug report too, don't know if it's been reported before - when making a new player, hit backspace when you've got no characters in the box, and you get an instant crash. Sad

Shocked ouch... happens over here too, and nope thats never been reported. oh well, other than that still no problems.

new feature idea:
when there are a million systems and planets Wink perhaps it would be good to add a feature that allows you to take over planets so they send out a lot of ships and if you kill them you get paid by the planet and maybe get to control a few things on it.

Good catch with the backspace thing, Mike. I'm surprised I never noticed. Oh well, it'll be fixed in the next update Very Happy I'll see what I can do about your other suggestions, also. Mouse control might be awhile, though. I currently don't know how to do that Confused

And I've already fixed the issues noted by spork, which will be available shortly in the next release. Mr. Green

superb Smile im seeing what i can do about learning wings 3d but with school and all its difficult (im taking 7 classes this semester Shocked ) so when that develops, either sometime soon when i have time to learn it, or next semester when im taking the class perhaps it would be good to create an artwork forum so that people can make suggestions or help Cool

edit: bah, maybe i'll learn it now. i just noticed that its going to take 4 hours to back up 34 GB of files, and i need that to finish before i can do anything else.
